With just two days of head-to-head competition remaining, the Havre Blue Pony golf team is getting an idea of what it needs to golf to get the job done at divisional and state.
The Havre boys' golf team finished in second place with a 314, just one stroke off leader Lewistown, at the Lewistown Invitational on Tuesday.
"I was really pleased with the kids there," Havre head coach Keith Evenson said.
Nick Obie led the Blue Ponies with a 74 and finished second overall. Kyle Sheppard fired a 77 and finished in a four-way tie.
Jason Johnstone shot an 80, Troy Toner an 82, and Kyle Lammerding a 90 at the meet.
Kevin Harada was involved with music and did not compete at the meet.
"I was happy to play the course before divisional," Evenson said. The Central A divisional meet will be held at Lewistown on May 12-13.
Because of music conflicts, only two Havre girls competed. Jenni Solomon shot a 99 and Jessica Sande a 102.
The Laurel girls captured the crown at the meet.
"Most of the kids thought they played really well," Evenson said. "The girls were pleased with their scores."
The Ponies will compete at Fort Benton Friday and Cut Bank on Saturday to round out its regular season.
"I expect Fort Benton to play really well," Evenson said. "They want to beat our boys pretty badly."
