Elly Rennick, a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) in the early 1950s, has been elected commander of American Legion District 2.
Rennick was elected during the district's spring meeting in April at Turner. She will replace outgoing District Commander Louis DePuydt of Saco.
Also elected to district offices were Vice Commander Stan Knudson of Havre and Adjutant Finance Officer Frank Pehrson of Chinook.
They will officially assume office in July at the State Department Convention in Butte.
District 2 is comprised of the 10 Legion Posts of Havre, Rocky Boy, Chinook, Big Sandy, Malta, Hogeland, Saco, Chester, Turner and Fort Belknap.
Rennick served part of her six-year hitch in Chicago before being ordered to Okinawa the last Japanese stronghold invaded by the United States before the end of World War Two.
The American Legion supports numerous youth and veterans' programs including: Boy Scouts, Boys State, American Legion Baseball, the White Cross program and veterans' hospitals.
