The MSU-Northern wrestling program has signed a very talented Californian to the line-up in one Fidel Archuleta, Lights Head Coach David Ray announced.
Archuleta comes to the Lights from Calvary Chapel High School in Costa Mesa, Calif.
As a senior, Archuleta compiled 43 wins and only eight losses, and took fourth place at the very tough California state tournament.
"Fidel is a very talented wrestler. He has great technique, and has a natural feel for the sport," Ray said of his new grappler. "He will be an exciting wrestler for the fans to watch. He is quick on his feet and a hard-nosed competitor," Ray said.
One area Ray sees a need for improvement is in Archuleta's strength.
"If we can get him in the weight room lifting weights he will be very competitive at this level," Ray said.
Archuleta will more than likely red-shirt his first year with the Lights, wrestling in open tournaments at 157 or 165 pounds, Ray said.
Archuleta is the son of Stewart and Esther Archuleta.
