The United Way Day of Caring on Friday will give a good opportunity for people to come out, donate some time and hard work and have a little fun, said Bob Rice, director of the Havre United Way.
There are three main projects for the day. Rice said they plan to tear down and rebuild the porch on the main Salvation Army building, put in a patio slab with picnic tables behind the Golden Triangle Mental Health building, and paint the Girl Scout house, doing some electrical work, landscaping, laying vinyl floor tile and installing gutters there. The event will last from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Rice said if enough volunteers come to the event, they will send some to help with landscaping at the four HRDC transition homes as well. He said volunteers should come to the Girl Scout house first, at 420 Fifth Ave., and he will assign which project they are needed to work at.
Rice said even if people can only come in for a couple of hours it would be beneficial.
"We don't care if you only come in for an hour; we could use you," he said.
Rice said it looks like there will be a good turnout for the event. He said the Montana National Guard has said they will send four volunteers, as well as other members of the community showing interest in working at the projects. He said local vendors have also been very cooperative about the matter.
Rice said some breakfast and a lunch will be provided, and there will be some camaraderie at 15 West afterwards, with snacks and beverages provided. He asked that anyone planning to volunteer call the United Way office at 265-6561 so they can plan for lunches.
He said people coming to work at the projects should sign a sheet with their name and address at the Girl Scout house when they arrive, so he will have a list he can use to show the United Way's appreciation for the donated time and work.
