The Havre Comets and the defending State Class A champion Northstars stepped onto the diamond Sunday night in an American Legion showdown.
Both teams came out swinging, putting up a run each in the first inning.
A sacrifice fly by Ricky Brown scored David Heberly for the first run of the night for the Northstars. But in the bottom of the first, the Comets answered when Doug Ireland tripled in Mike Kellam, who reached base on a walk to tie the score at 1-1.
The Northstars opened the game up in the fourth inning by scoring four runs on two hits and that is all the help pitcher Danny Wirtzberger would need.
Wirtzberger caught fire, striking out seven Comets and allowed only six hits over nine innings for the complete game win.
The Norststars added two more runs in the sixth inning and three more in the ninth to down the Comets, 11-2.
The next home game for the Comets will be a doubleheader Sunday, May 14 against Malta. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. at Legion Field.
