Madeline O. Ellis, 90, of Havre, died Sunday, May 28, 2000 at a Havre nursing home of natural causes.
Cremation has taken place. Interment of remains will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Conrad Memorial Cemetery in Kalispell.
Ellis was born April 26, 1910 to Frank M. and Mary J. (Oleson) Hickerson at Bemidji, Minn. She attended school in Bemidji and graduated from Bemidji High School.
On May 11, 1930, she married Ralph H. Ellis. They lived in several small areas of Minnesota and moved to Whitefish in March 1942 so he could work for the Great Northern Railroad. She worked as a chambermaid in a Whitefish hotel.
He transferred to work in the diesel shop in Havre in 1945 and she went to work at the Dutch Shop Cafe in downtown Havre. She later went to work for Havre Public Schools at Lincoln-McKinley Elementary.
He retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad in 1974 and they moved to Lakeside and then to Kalispell.
Ellis' husband died in 1990 and she moved to the Eagles Manor in Havre. In 1995, she moved into a private home in Havre for care and companionship. She became a resident of a Havre care center in May 1999.
Ellis enjoyed making quilts for family and friends, crocheting, cake decorating and church work.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and four brothers.
Survivors include daughters, Marian Seeley of Havre and Kathleen Ellis of Puyallup, Wash.; four grandsons; one great-granddaughter and six great-grandsons; a sister and sister-in-law in Minnesota, and several nieces and nephews.
