Kim Berg rose to the top of the pack in the javelin at the Ninth Annual Top 8 track and field meet held at Cascade on Thursday.
The freshman from KG won the javelin with a toss of 125-10. Though not her personal-best throw, Berg won the event by more than five feet.
She also placed third in the high jump at 4-10, and fourth in the long jump at 15-8.
Thirty schools from Classes A, B, and C were at the meet that featured more than 200 athletes.
KG's Aaron Smith won the 3,200 meters with a time of 10:42. He was edged by Craig Widhalm of Belt by .01 in the 1,600 and finished second in the race with a time of 4:37.3.
Virgil Stewart of KG placed third in the 3,200 with a time of 11:16.
Justin Antonich of KG won the boys' javelin with a throw of 170-2 1/2.
KG's Joey Stuart won the triple jump, leaping 41-1 1/2.
Eric Hanson of KG placed third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:08. He also placed fourth in the 1,600 with a time of 4:56.
Blue Sky was also represented at the meet, with Lindsey Letang placing fourth in the 1,600 meters with a time of 6:02.
Natalie Strissel of Blue Sky placed fourth in the girls' 300 hurdles with a time of 51.2.
Some highlights of the meet included Bruce Van Dyke of Judith Gap, who broke the meet record in the discus with a throw of 159-8.
Rachel Gjesvold of Fairfield won the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.3 and set a new meet record.
The Fort Benton girls won the 400-meter relay in 51.83, setting a new meet record.
Michael Mayernick of Centerville won the 110-meter hurdles with a meet-record time of 15.4.
Class A Browning speedster Jovan Fisher placed second in both the 100- and 200-meter races. He was outdistanced by Kyle Carlson of Class C Centerville.
