CHINOOK It was the clash of No. 2 and No. 9 as the Chinook Sugarbeeters looked to beat Malta for the first time in their last three contests.
This was also the first time during the past three that the game had been played in Chinook. The Beeters, however, where unsuccessful and dropped their first game of the season to the Mustangs 24-6.
Both teams were kept out of the end zone in the first half of the ball game with the only points coming off the foot of Malta kicker Josh Roberts, who kicked a field goal in the second to give Malta 3-0 lead at half time.
Malta scored first in the third as it picked up a Chinook fumble and ran it back 75-yards for the score. Chinook answered back, though, as Jimmy Steyee ran the ball in from 11 yards away. At the end of three, it was Malta on top 10-6.
In the fourth, it was all Mustangs as they scored twice on pass plays of 25 and 27 yards.
Chinook had 214 yards in total offense in the loss. This loss drops the Beeters to 2-1 in league play and 3-1 on the season.
Chinook head coach Scott Friede was unavailable for comment.
The Beeters make the trip to Billings this Saturday to play a non-league game against Billings Central. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 in the Magic City.
