CHINOOK Rosina Shelstad, 90, died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, at a Chinook care center of natural causes.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. this morning at the Chinook United Methodist Church with burial following in the Kuper Memorial Cemetery.
Shelstad was born Jan. 29, 1909, to John and Theresa (Mayer) Braunstadter in Streeter, N.D.
On Nov. 5, 1927, she married Leonard Shelstad in Havre. The couple farmed at Turner and moved to Malta in 1938. She was a cook for the school until moving to Chinook in 1947, where she operated the Zurich Lunch Cafe until 1950. She operated a laundry from 1950 to 1965. She was employed at the Chinook Hotel until 1973, when she moved to Colorado Springs, Colo. She moved into the Sweet Memorial Nursing Home in early 1997.
Shelstad was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1964, a daughter, Patsy in 1992, four grandchildren, four step children, two brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include daughters, Leona Teske of Casper, Wyo., Phyllis Miller of Denver, Colo., Connie Shelstad of Pacific Grove, Calif., and Betty Morris of Chinook; sons, Donald Shelstad of Colorado Springs, Colo., Keith Shelstad of Gillette, Wyo., Curtis Shelstad of Sanger, Texas, and John Shelstad of Chinook; two step children, Violet Calvet of Vancouver, Wash., and Gladys Kucklick of Puyallup, Wash.; sisters, Katie of Chester, Irene of Vancouver, Wash., Esther and Alvina of Billings, Hilda of Laurel, Edna of Harlem, and Ruth of Lubbock, Texas; a brother, John of Billings; and 20 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren, 21 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the Sweet Memorial Nursing Home of Chinook.
Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook is in charge of arrangements.
