Skylights ready for opening season match

By Tiffany L. Rehbein

Coming off a successful Frontier Conference scrimmage last weekend, the MSU-Northern Skylights volleyball team will get the opportunity to test its skills against some NCAA talent.

The Skylights will meet NCAA Division-III Concordia College at 3 p.m. Friday and Division-II University of North Dakota at 5 p.m. in Moorhead, Minn.

The Skylights are refining two different lineups at this time. With no definite lineup, the Labor Day games will give first-year head coach Lisa Handley a good idea of what her offense can do.

Well see who wants to push for a starting position over the weekend, Handley said. Were building right now and we will keep building.

The Skylights finished second at the Frontier Conference scrimmage last weekend at Dillon, their first fall matches on the court.

At Minnesota, the Skylights will have five-foot-10 sophomore Lyndi Hostetter suited up. She sat out last weekend for personal reasons.

Hostetter was a second team All-Conference selection her freshman year and was third in the Frontier Conference in digs.

Well be working her into the team and seeing where were at, Handley said. Well mix the lineup a couple of times.

Hostetter and sophomores Jessica Gerenz and Gabrielle Chamblis, all Minnesota natives, also look forward to the challenge at Concordia.

The three Minnesota girls are pretty excited to be only three and a half hours from their home, Handley said. Its always exciting to see new teams. It will be a good experience for all of us.

The Skylights will return to Montana and ready themselves for play at the Frontier Conference Tournament Sept. 10-11 at Dillon.

This will be a great warm-up for the Frontier Conference tournament, Handley said.
