CHARLES LEONARD

Charles Anthony Leonard, 64, died Monday, June 7, 1999, at his residence of an apparent heart attack.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. June 21, at the Van Orsdel Methodist Church in Havre. Cremation has taken place.

Leonard was born April 24, 1935, at Havre to Anthony and Jeannette Leonard. He attended schools in Havre and graduated from Havre High School. After graduation he attended Northern Montana College and played basketball for the Northern Lights. In 1955 he was employed by the Great Northern Railroad which later became the Burlington Northern and Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railroad. He retired in 1997.

On Nov. 10, 1956, he married Phyllis Bilile in Havre.

Leonard was active in the Army Reserves, serving time at Fort Ord, Calif. He helped establish the Legion Ball field and was active on the Northern Montana College Foundation at its inception. He participated in the Crimestoppers golf tournament and was a member of the Eagles and Elks. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, art work, gardening, barbecuing and spending time with family and friends. He was an avid sports fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Leona, Mabel and Jeanne Ann.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis of Havre; daughters, Kathy Anderson of Havre and Gail Leonard of Missoula; a sister, Betty Craddick of Shelton, Wash.; an adopted brother, Butch Leonard London of San Diego, Calif.; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
