MARY GOODWIN

Mary Alice Goodwin, 74, a resident of Big Sandy, died Sunday, May 30, 1999, of natural causes at a Big Sandy hospital.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Holland & Bonine Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Marvin Gunnarson officiating. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Townsend with the Rev. Rob Gohl officiating. Burial will follow at the Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Helena.

Goodwin was born Jan. 24, 1925, in Townsend to Earl and Alice (Nichols) Burtch. She attended schools in Townsend and graduated from Townsend High School. She completed a correspondence course from the La Salle Institute of Business where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business.

On Jan. 25, 1945, she married Ray W. Goodwin in Helena. The couple farmed outside of Billings for six years and then moved back to Townsend where they farmed. She sold insurance for the Montana Farmers Union Insurance Company. She won many awards there as the top sales person.

The couple moved to Helena in 1976. They were later divorced. She moved to Havre in 1990, where she lived at the Eagles Manor until moving to Big Sandy where she resided at the Big Sandy Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Earl Burtch Jr.

Survivors include sons, Col. William E. Goodwin of Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, and Milton E. Goodwin of Anchorage, Alaska; daughters, Aliene Gribas of Havre and Susan Spatzierath of Townsend; brothers, Edward and James Burtch of Townsend; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Gift of Life, Project Hope or Make a Wish Foundation.
