KG alumni finish strong at Striders run, Peterson, Ray look impressive for Havre

Turn out was strong and the top times were quick for the Havre Striders Festival Days 5K and 1-mile run, jog, or walk Sunday morning.

A total of 64 participants completed the 5K competition held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday and 18 completed the 1-mile course around the MSU-Northern campus an hour later.

Blazing the way in the longer race through Highland Park were a pair of KG runners who came in within two seconds of each other. Aaron Smith copped top honors with a time of 17 minutes and 37 seconds, while teammate Eric Hanson crossed the line at the First Avenue S-curve in 17:39.

The first woman to finish was Havre High ace harrier Jennie Peterson in 19:20. Hot on her heels were her head coach Kim Ray in 20:02 and her assistant coach and former KG standout Christin Smith in 20:09.

Also breaking the fabled 20-minute barrier in the 3.1 mile run were Kyle Raining Bird, 18:14; Garrett Watson, 18:49; Donovan Archambault, 19:13; Cliff Cunningham, 19:14; Dave Crossly, 19:36; Deven Donoven, 19:51.

Taking the cake in the 1-mile run for the men was Zoon Wood in 6:06, with Laura Watson leading the way for the distaffs in 7 minutes flat. Also finishing in the 6-minute range were Joel Dupree in 6:12 and Jim Chenoweth in 6:30.
