Sophomore Gabrielle Chambliss tallied five serve aces and tied an MSU-Northern school record as the Skylights pounded Westminster College 15-5, 15-4, 15-2.
Northern traveled to Salt Lake City Friday and came away with the win in the Frontier Conference opener.
We played well, said first-year head coach Lisa Handley. We knew they were a team who was beatable and we could have easily played at their level.
But the Skylights played at their own level, missing only two serves the entire match.
Senior captain Melanie Baack led the Skylights with six kills while Adrienne Poplawski tallied five in the match.
Sophomore Jessica Gerenz had 12 assists to lead the Skylights from the setter position. Gerenz also tallied two blocks in the win.
Senior Jen Sanders and sophomore Lyndi Hostetter each had five digs in the contest.
They communicated well, Handley said. We were digging up junk balls balls that come off the top of a block and they upped their level of play.
The Skylights, 1-0 in the Frontier Conference and 2-6 overall, will perform in their home-opener Friday when they host Western Montana College.
