CHESTER Lulu Ella Sloan, 82, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at a Liberty County care center from complications of diabetes.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Chester Alliance Church. Burial will follow in the Chester Cemetery.
Sloan was born Aug. 25, 1917, in Ree Township, Donnybrook, N.D., to Edward and Amelia (Kuhfeld) Schwede. She received her formal education at the Viola School District and was recognized for her perfect attendance.
On Nov. 12, 1937, she married Lyndon E. Sloan, at the Schwede farm home. The couple resided at Tagus, N.D., farming there until 1959, when they moved to Chester.
Sloan was employed at several Chester restaurants including, Tip top, Grand, and the Mint Cafe. She was also employed as an attendant at the Liberty County Museum. Her husband died Nov. 25, 1972. She remained at her home until moving to the Liberty County Nursing Home.
She was a member of the St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Tagus, N.D. She attended Lutheran Church in Chester during the 1960s and 1970s. During recent years she was a member of the Alliance Church in Chester. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors of America. Her hobbies included crocheting, embroidery and gardening. She enjoyed traveling, family gatherings, and visiting with old friends, neighbors and relatives.
Sloan was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and three brothers, Floyd, Raymond and DeForest Schwede.
Survivors include sons, Duaine Sloan of Havre and Curtis Sloan of Fort Benton; a daughter, Linda Ward of Raleigh, N.C.; four grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
Rockman Funeral Chapel of Chester is in charge of arrangements.
