The 16-member Havre High School cross country team will race into action Friday when it travels to Cut Bank to run in the annual Cut Bank Time Trials.
This will be used to see how in shape they are right now, said first-year head coach Kim Ray. I want to see that their times are faster from one year ago.
For the freshmen and sophomores, who are Jenna Baltrusch, Jen Gorder, Maureen Porter and Alicia Rundquist, this will be the first time on a course like this.
Ray described the course as average with one OK hill on it. The race is three miles long and Ray looks for the girls to finish in the 21-minute range.
Twenty-one:30 would be a good time, Ray said. I hope to have them start at least where they left off last season.
Last year, the Blue Ponies opened the season running on a flat course at Malta, but the girls look forward to returning to Cut Bank, Ray said.
Senior Jen Dibblee and junior Jennie Peterson will probably start the fastest pace, Ray said. Following will be Jillian Brough, Nancy Cline, Nikki Grant, Andrea Holmes, Cara Holmquist, Erin Lynch, Mary Russell, Stacey Siebrasse, Rachel Spangelo and Carly Toldness.
These time trials will give us a good look at who the top seven runners are on the team, Ray said. This will make sure of the top seven.
