Tavern group moves Northern tailgate party

The Hill County Tavern Associations pregame tailgate parties in support of the Montana State University-Northern Lights football team have been moved. At least for this weekends game, anyway, according to HCTA President Jupe Compton.

Compton said the change was made when MSU-Northern Chancellor Mike Rao showed up at the associations planning meeting Wednesday afternoon.

Well be holding it at the parking lot south of the (Northern) gym, instead of on the south side of the SUB, Compton said.

The event begins at about 11 and will conclude about a half hour before the Lights 1 p.m. kickoff against the Western Montana College Bulldogs.

Compton said that the association still plans to sell beer and pop along with the hot dogs and bratwurst it will be grilling. One hundred percent of the receipts from the tailgate party sales will go to the Lights football team. The beer will go for $2 a can and the dogs and brats will sell for $2 a piece.

Compton said the Tavern association is donating the meat, buns and condiments, and that area beer and pop distributors are donating the beverages.

Waddell & Reed Inc. will donate a quality, a-one lettermans jacket to be awarded at raffle during the parties preceding each of the Lights home games.

Several 50/50 boards, with $62.50 payouts to both the winner and the team on each $125 board, will be filled each week, too.

Compton said Northern Athletic Director Ted Spatkowski told the association that he will have tables delivered to the parking lot in time for the tailgate party.

Were moving picnic tables in for spectators and fans that will be set up on the lawn, and also tables for serving and that sort of thing, Dr. Spatkowski said in a telephone interview today.

Volunteer grill chef Scott Boots Young said he plans to get the grills going at about a quarter to 11.
