ROSE CALLIES

Rose Callies, 95, died Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at a local care center of natural causes.

A prayer vigil will be 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Holland & Bonine Funeral Chapel. Graveside services and burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Highland Cemetery.

Callies was born Feb. 23, 1904, in Wynona, N.D. to George and Eleanor (Vetch) Nold. She was raised on a farm. When she was 18 she moved to Linton, N.D. and worked in Don Traceys hotel. She also was employed for various restaurants in Linton.

From 1932-43 she owned and operated her own restaurant. Later after selling the restaurant she moved to Bismarck. In 1935, she was employed at the State Capitol Building during the legislature.

On March 16, 1935, she married Carl Callies in Bismarck. The couple moved to Great Falls in 1940 and to Havre in 1941. They owned and operated a neighborhood grocery store and apartments. She was employed for the Great Northern Railway for over 13 years.

In 1966, the couple sold their property and moved to Hot Springs. They spent winter months in Arizona and traveled to Germany and Russia. He died in 1978. She remained in Hot Springs until 1994 when she moved to the Eagles Manor. In 1996 she entered the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd and later the Northern Montana Care Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include nieces, Perry Sherrill, Virginia Keeley and Betty Jean Callies, guardian Bonnie Keeley, all of Havre; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
