Thursday, the KG KouGars slipped by Whitewater 54-49.
Whitewater rushed out to an early lead and took control with a 14-2 first quarter lead. The KouGars answered in the second as they outscored Whitewater 27-11 to take a 29-25 halftime lead. KG added to its lead and went up 43-38. Both teams had 11 points in the final quarter, leaving the KouGars on top for the win.
KG was led by Jen Seifert who drilled 15 points to lead three KouGars in double figures.
Also Thursday, Reed Point dumped Box Elder, 57-34, at a neutral site game.
Reed Point took a 17-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. By half time Reed Point led 27-18. It was more of the same in the second half as Reed Point cruised to the win.
Sommer Rosette led the way for the Bears with 13 points in the game.
On Friday, Big Sandy blasted Rocky Boy 76-30. The game was marked by five players fouling out and technical fouls on both team benches.
The Pioneers ran out to a 13-7 lead after one. It was more of the same in the second as Big Sandy led 35-14 at halftime. The Pioneers rolled through the second half and on to the win.
Amy Silvan led the way for Big Sandy with 11 points while Rose Crebs led the Morning Stars with 16.
In a key 9-C clash, the Box Elder Bears beat the Blue Sky Eagles Friday 53-43.
The Eagles had a slight 9-6 lead at the end of one, but the Bears came roaring back in the second to take a 20-19 lead at the break. In the third quarter, Box Elder got the job done, outscoring Blue Sky 19-8. The Eagles had the slight scoring edge in the fourth but it was not enough to come back.
Tessie LaMere led the Bears with 19. The Eagles were led by Lindsey Letang who had 11.
J-I fell to 10-C foe Brady, 46-29, on Friday. The Bulldogs ran out to an 11-4 lead after one quarter of play. By the half, Brady led 20-12. The Rams had the scoring advantage in the third but the Bulldogs outscored J-I 17-6 in the fourth to hold on to the win.
Angela Peek was J-Is top scorer with 14 points.
Chester put three players in double figures Friday as it blasted its way past KG, 87-49.
The Coyotes again used a big first quarter to put the game away early, leading 25-11 after one. By the mid-way point, Chester had built a 48-24 lead. The Coyotes cruised through the second half to stay unbeaten on the season.
Michelle VanDyke had 14 to lead Chester, while Ashley Melby dumped in a game-high 15 points for the KouGars.
Hays-Lodgepole collected its first win as it beat Turners JV squad 62-29.
The Thunderbirds took a 17-6 lead after one. The two teams scored the same in the second and Hays-Lodgepole led 34-12 at the break. The T-Birds flew through the second half on their way to the win.
Chelsey Kirkaldie had 18 points to lead Hays-Lodgepole. The Tornadoes were led by Melissa Grabofsky who had 17 points in the loss.
Second-ranked Chester stayed perfect on the season as it downed the Blue Sky Eagles 88-46 Saturday night.
The Coyotes led 17-14 after one and outscored the Eagles 26-8 in the second to take a 43-22 halftime lead. Chester took control and led throughout the rest of the ball game.
Heidi Cison led the way for Chester with 16 points. The Eagles were led by Carlye Redding who had 12 points.
J-I fell to Valier Saturday night 46-32.
The Rams opened up a 9-4 lead after one quarter of play but could not maintain the lead. In the second the Panthers outscored J-I 17-6 to take a 21-15 half time lead. J-I fought back in the third and cut the Valier lead to 33-29. In the fourth, it was all Panthers as they held on for the win. Peek had a game high 22 points to lead the Rams.
No. 1 ranked Big Sandy broke the century mark as it ran all over Hays-Lodgepole 105-25.
Big Sandy scored 31 points in the first quarter and had 54 points by halftime. Hays-Lodgepoles quarter-by-quarter scoring was not reported.
Tiffany Jamieson drilled 18 points to lead five Pioneers in double-figures. The T-Birds were led by Kirkaldie who had eight points in the loss.
Everybody played a lot this past weekend, head coach Ray Lackner said, and they are ready to go.
The task gets a little tougher for the Pioneers this weekend as they face KG, who lost its first game Friday, and Geraldine.
Without Sasha Ritter (who is out with an achilles tendon problem) this will be a little test this weekend to see how we do, Lackner said.
