The District 9-C KG KouGars, heading into a tough competition Friday against undefeated Chester, downed the District 1-C Whitewater Penguins 54-49 in non-conference play Thursday.
Jen Siefert, who had a career-high scoring attack in the opening game of the season, led the KouGars with 15 points.
Kim Berg, Ashley Melby and Kristin Preeshl joined Siefert with double figures offensively.
KG overcame a 14-2 first quarter deficit and notched 25 second quarter points to go up 27-25 at the half.
Melby hit two 3-pointers in the quarter to spark the KouGars.
Melanie Green led Whitewater with 16 points and was joined by Tricia Hammond with 10.
Siefert had eight fourth quarter points to sew up the victory.
Friday, KG travels to Chester to take on the Coyotes.
Jamie Graham has led Chester, who finished third at the State Class C tournament last season.
Graham has tallied double figures in each game so far this season and has been joined by seven other teammates who can notch high scoring marks, including Michelle VanDyke who had a team-high 22 points earlier this year.
Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Chester.
