The Havre Striders Festival Days 5K and one-mile runs have been moved from Saturday to Sunday this year. And theyve been moved from downtown and east Havre to MSU-Northern and Highland Park.
We thought this year wed do it right in front of the Sunday in the Park activities, said Havre Striders Running Club member Audrey Schumacher. (The runners) can just stick around for the barbecue and all the events in the park.
The long-time runs were held just prior to the Saturday morning parade with the finish line on the parade route.
The change is intended to allow runners the chance to participate in or watch the parade Saturday. Organizers also hope the switch will enable and encourage more area residents and Festival Days revelers to run and become involved in fitness programs.
Were just trying to get the (Striders) back together again for anyone who is interested in run and fitness activities, for the people of Havre, Schumacher said.
Race day registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the S-curve entrance to MSU-Northern at the intersection of First Avenue and 11th Street. The start and finish lines for both runs are adjacent to the S-curve parking lot.
The 5K run/walk will begin at 10:30 a.m., with the one-mile run/walk slated to start at 11:30 a.m.
The 5K runners will run south and follow a C-course around the campus and turn west onto West 11th Street. Theyll run west to Wilson Avenue and turn south, then turn left onto West 13th Street and right onto Lincoln Avenue. Theyll turn left onto West 15th and then left again onto Washington Avenue. Theyll run north to West 11th Street, then turn right and run down the hill to the First Avenue (S-curve) turn onto campus and the finish line.
The one-mile course is a full circuit of the campus.
The $12 registration fee ($36 per immediate family of three or more) includes race refreshments, door prizes and a 100 percent cotton long-sleeved shirt.
Prizes will be awarded to the first-, second-, and third-place 5K winners, men and women.
