The MSU-Northern Skylights golf team traveled to Butte to play in a Frontier Conference Tournament at the Butte Country Club Friday.
The Skylights opened at Helena Friday and returned home Saturday to play at the Beaver Creek Golf Course.
I was pleased with the way they played, said head coach Jessica Peters.
At Carroll College, senior Brooke Barkus of Havre shot a career-best 83 to lead the Skylights. Freshman Shanda Lammerding of Havre shot an 87. Both scores landed the ladies in the top 10 standings overall at the tournament.
Senior Jami Jackson shot a 102 while freshman Ristina Johnston shot a 100 at Helena. The team finished with 366 points.
At Havre, Lammerding shot a 97 followed by Barkus with a 94. Jackson and Johnston shot a 112 and 108, respectively, for a team total of 407.
Peters said the team three-putted on several holes and, during the past week in practice, the Skylights have been focusing on knocking off some strokes from their score. Doug Sheppard, who is assisting Peters this season, has also been helping the ladies at chipping the ball.
Were going to concentrate and get the ball as close as possible on the second shot so that we can one- or two-putt it in, Peters said.
Montana Tech, the tournament host, finished in last place at both tournaments last week. Rocky Mountain College, Lewis-Clark State College and Western Montana College, all of whom finished in the top three places last weekend, will again be at the tournament as will Carroll College.
