EDWARD MOES

BIG SANDY Edward W. Moes, 81, died Thursday, June 24, 1999, at a Big Sandy hospital of natural causes.

Prayer Vigil services will be held 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Margaret Marys Catholic Church in Big Sandy. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Margaret Marys Catholic Church with Father Pete Guthneck officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Big Sandy Cemetery.

Moes was born Dec. 31, 1917, near Green Bay, Wis., to Edward and Otilla Moes. He moved to Big Sandy in 1935, and graduated from Big Sandy High School in 1940. He attended Northern Montana College in Havre for a short time.

In 1941, he married Noreen Welty. He then entered the Army Air Corps where he trained glider pilots and flew air transport between the Philippines, Japan, Okinawa and Guam. After the end of the war he returned to Montana where he farmed south of Big Sandy until the mid 1960s. He ran a farm equipment sales business until his retirement.

He enjoyed gardening and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ray and Dick Moes, a sister, Adelaide Jurenka, all but one of his half brothers, a son, Michael and a grandson, Jeffery.

Survivors include his wife, Noreen; three sons, Gordon of Big Sandy, Steve of Conrad and Russ Moes of Kalispell; a half brother, Leonard; and eight grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to St. Margaret Marys Catholic Church.
