Havre hosts Big Sky qualifiers

Havre will host a 47-team youth basketball tournament made up of athletes entering grades 7-12 for the Big Sky State Games regional tournament on June 5-6.

The earliest competition kicks off with boys action on Sat., June 5 at 8 a.m. when the Havre Regulators meet the Gildford Rukes at Havre High School. The latest championship game will be played at 3:30 p.m. at Havre High School when only the toughest competitors remain. Girls competition, grades 7-8, will be held at Havre Central. Girls grades 9-10 and 11-12 will be held at Havre Middle School. The boys competition, grades 7-8 and 9-10, will be held at Havre High School while the boys grades 11-12 will be held at MSU-Northern.

Championship games are slated for Sunday afternoon. The top two finishers in the girls grades 11-12, boys grades 7-8, and girls grades 9-10; the top three finishers in boys grades 11-12 and girls grades 7-8; and the top four finishers in the boys grades 9-10 bracket will advance to the finals.

The finals will be held in Billings July 17-18. Teams qualifying in regional tournaments around the state will compete. The public is encouraged to attend. Daily admission is $3 for adults and $1 for students age 7-18, children six and under are admitted free of charge.
