For some, it’s already begun. For many more, it’s just about to.
Both college and high school athletes are preparing to start practice in anticipation of the brand new fall sports season, and this week is a big one for many.
At the collegiate level, the Montana State University-Northern volleyball team got under way last week, and will again practice all this week at the MSU-Northern Fieldhouse. The Skylights open their season Aug. 19-20 in Great Falls.
And the MSU-Northern football team is not far off from beginning its season either. The Lights, under veteran head coach Mark Samson, report to fall camp on Friday, with the first practice set for Sunday at the MSU-Northern practice fields. The Lights open the season on Sept. 3 at home against UM-Western.
High school athletes will be soon be putting on the pads, hitting the gyms and the golf courses too.
The Havre High golf teams can begin practicing on Thursday with Aug. 15 as the first official date of competition. Meanwhile, the Blue Pony football team will get to work for the first time on Friday. Friday is the first day that Class AA, A and Class C eight-man teams can begin practicing for the upcoming season, so that also means area teams like Chinook, Chester/J-I and Hays-Lodge Pole will also get under way. Class B teams like Harlem and Rocky Boy, and all area Class C Six-Man teams can begin practicing on Aug. 15.
Aug. 15 is also a big day for the Havre High volleyball team as well as the Pony cross country teams. That is the day those two sports can begin practicing for their upcoming seasons.
