Cora J. Wolfe, 89, died in Havre on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008.
Early Wednesday morning our precious mom and grandmother was met by her angels to escort her home to join her husband, Linden, for one last great adventure. At her request, cremation has taken place and burial of ashes will take place May 26 in Glasgow. A celebration of Cora’s life will be held Feb. 16 at 2:30 p.m. at the chapel in the Northern Montana Care Center, where she resided for the last year and a half of her life. Born Cora Josephine Hofer Jan. 24, 1919, and raised in San Francisco, Cora melted the heart of the man who delivered ice to her family’s modern and fashionable home. Leaving all these comforts behind in 1936, she and Linden moved to the plains of northeastern Montana, where she learned quickly how to survive without electricity, running water and plumbing. Her on-the-job training included learning to cook with wood and coal, bake bread, canning, and preserving food, along with the hardships of ranching her husband often being the guinea pig to her trials and experiments. Together Cora and Linden raised two daughters: Linda Ann (Tom) Geelan of Havre and Donna (Larry) Heinz of Jamestown, Ohio, who survive her in addition to six grandchildren, nine greatgrandchildren; a great-greatgranddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews With a quick and kind wit, Cora was always a magnet that endeared everyone that met her, with friends across the Hi-Line of Montana from Bainville to Whitefish. She was always able to find a way to laugh and put people at ease through some of the toughest times. Grandma shines in the hearts of her family, as well as in the hearts of all her friends and her extended family at Northern Montana Care Center. Cora was preceded in death by her parents, Cora Annie and Fred C. Hofer; a brother, Fred C. Hofer; great-grandson, Zachary S. Nickels, and son-inlaw, Charles W. Marriott. Her family wishes to thank the staff and residence at Northern Montana Care Center for making the final chapter of her life as grand and enjoyable as possible. Holland and Bonine Funeral Home in Havre is in charge of arrangements.
