Mabelle Avila, 89, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at the Care and Comfort Home in Havre, with her friends by her side, from natural causes.
Her graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2008, at the Highland Cemetery with the Rev. Robert D. Grosch officiating. A memorial service is planned for mid-June, 2008. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to Holland & Bonine Funeral Home. Mabelle was born Sept. 3, 1918, in Chinook to Harry and Isabella Christian. She married Robert Avila . Before her illness, Mabelle was active in the Havre community. She was the co-owner of North Central Crop Insurance Agency and was a member of SCORE, the Republican Women’s Association and the Soroptimist Club. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert Avila, in 2002. Mabelle is survived by her daughter, Dr. Linda Thorton of Sarasota, Fla.; close friend and adopted daughter Valerie Barnett of Havre; a sister, Virginia Trochee, of Great Falls,; two nieces, one nephew, and several cousins.
