William T. “Bill” Quirk, 94, father of Havre resident Don Quirk, passed away Feb. 14, 2008, in Tucson, Ariz., after a brief illness.
He was born in White Plains, N.Y., on Aug. 24, 1913, to James and Irene Quirk and was the oldest of five siblings. Bill graduated from high school in White Plains. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Bill met and married his wife of 64 years, Helen O. Thomson, in El Paso, Texas. After returning to White Plains, he joined the local fire department in 1946 where he served for 29 years. Bill and Helen relocated to Tucson in 983. Donald Quirk of Havre had Don’s Repairs Service across from the Hi-way Grocery and worked part-time at SuperAmerica. Don was an ASC Mechanic in the Montana Air Guard for 11 years. He graduated for Montana State University-Northern with a bachelor’s degree and taught high school shop and driver’s ed. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Helen; their eight children, Bill Quirk of Tucson, Donald Quirk of Havre, Gary Quirk of New Milford, Conn., Patricia Mechan and Deborah Quirk, both of Cortland Manor, N. Y., Robert Quirk of Las Vegas, Suzanne Quirk of Mamaroneck, N.Y., and Barbara Ibert of South Port, N. C.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were conducted in White Plains.
