It has been a busy couple of days for high school track and field athletes across the Hi-Line. Local teams competed well at the Cut Bank Invitational meet on Saturday and again at the Chester/J-I Invitational on Monday afternoon.

On Saturday in Cut Bank, the Chester/J-I girls team outdistanced Class C rival Big Sandy for first-place honors. The Hawks scored 99 team points while the Pioneers came in second with 80 points. North Star High School was seventh with 39 points and Chinook was 10th with 20 points. Harlem finished 13th with two points.

Despite the Hawks win in the team competition, the day once again belonged to Big Sandy freshman phenom Kourtney Danreuther, who won another five events. Danreuther captured the 100 and 200 meters, both hurdle events, and the long jump. Saturday was the fifth time this season that Danreuther has accomplished that feat. The Pioneers also got a win by Deserae O'Neal in the high jump.

Chester/J-I's Brianne Wolfe also had a standout day, winning both the 800 meters and 1600 meters en route to helping the Hawks to the team championship. North Star got a big push from teammates Courtney Wendland and Tasha Dyrland who finished first and second in the javelin, respectively.

On Monday, the Hawks continued their winning ways easily capturing their own meet. C/J-I rolled up 242 points to crush second-place North Star who scored 87 points. The Hawks had winners in every event except for the long jump which was captured by North Star's Megan Warren and the javelin, where Wendland once again came in first.

On the boys side of things, the Big Sandy Pioneers proved that they can step up in class and still get to the top of the leaderboard by winning the Cut Bank Invitational on Saturday. The Pioneers scored 107 points to run away with the team title. Glasgow was second with 71 points. North Star finished fifth with 47 points and Chester/J-I was sixth with 38 points. Harlem finished seventh with 29 points while Chinook came in 14th with five points.

Individually, Big Sandy's heralded sprinters once again led the Pioneers to victory. Ryan Pokorny won the 100 meters and teammate Carl Osterman captured the 400 meters and finished third in the 100. The Pioneers also captured the 400-meter relay title. Big Sandy also got a victory from Kyle Danreuther in the 300-meter hurdles to help its cause, as well as a win from Lawrence Jappe in the long jump.

North Star's Cody Donoven also had a big day in Cut Bank. Donoven worked his way to a win in the 110-meter hurdles and he also picked up another victory in the javelin. Harlem also got two gold medals on Saturday. Rick Haluszka captured the shot put title and Kameron Gilham won the discus.

On Monday, C/J-I rolled to the team title in Chester just as the Hawks' girls team did. C/J-I scored a whopping 272 points while second-place North Star scored 130 points.

Sean Dailey led the Hawks to victory with wins in the 100, 200 and 400-meter races. Caleb Brown also captured the 800-meters and 1600 meters for the Hawks. Donoven tried to help the Knights keep pace by winning both the 110 and 300-meter hurdles and the javelin. North Star also got wins from Shane Rice in the 3200 meters and discus.

Many of the athletes from schools across the Hi-Line will be in action today at the Northeast Top 10 meet in Glasgow.
