The H. Earl Clack Museum Foundation is sponsoring a fund-raiser called Hands on History at the Holiday Village Shopping Center on April 23.
Patterned after the Cottonwood Festival in Great Falls, the event will give children an opportunity to participate in activities that give them a hands-on experience of what life was like for pioneer people. Where appropriate, children will take home the items they have made.
The children will be able to participate in 23 different activities, including making butter, ice cream and yarn dolls, quilting, weaving paper bag baskets, twisting a rope using a 1908 rope machine, grinding wheat, learning Native American dancing and learning how to throw a lariat.
Ongoing during the day will be storytelling, a magic show and old time music. Displays include spinning wool, glass etching, table top looms and a Civil War display complete with canon.
Tickets for the activities are 25 cents each, with some events costing more than one ticket. Some of the activities and displays are free of charge.
The fund-raiser will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Proceeds for the Hands on History festival will go to support the H. Earl Clack Museum, the Wahkpa Chu'gn buffalo jump and other cultural activities in the Havre area. The H. Earl Clack Museum Foundation Board is a nonprofit organization.
