Playing steady if not spectacular golf, the Havre High boys golf team finished with a solid fourth-place showing at the prestigious Flat-Fish Open golf tournament held at Kalispell-Whitefish over the weekend.
The Pony boys shot a team total of 636 to finish fourth out of 16 Class AA and A teams.
"We played pretty steady," said Havre head coach Keith Evenson. "Nobody played exceptionally well. Really, I was quite pleased we finished behind CMR and the two host schools."
Flathead High finished first with a score of 607, while Whitefish and CMR tied for second and third with a score of 626.
"Obviously, they thought they could've played better," Evenson said. "They're so competitive."
Individually, the boys were led by Trent Normandy, who finished with a two-round total of 157. Teammate Jon Johnstone was a stroke back with a 158.
Flathead made a clean sweep of the tournament by winning the girls division. The Bravettes shot a team total of 738 and easily outpaced second- place Whitefish with a 775.
The Pony girls finished seventh in the team standings with an 869. They were led by Amanda Brock with a solid two- round score of 202. While the girls' play was up and down at times, Evenson was happy with their performance. More important to him was that both of his teams played some strong competition before they head to next weekend's divisional tournament in Anaconda.
"I think we really have a lot of confidence going into divisionals," Evenson said. "The competition we had this weekend is really going to help us there."
