The football season is still in its beginning stages, but over the weekend there were still some big wins by Hi-Line programs.
On Thursday night the Northern C Chester/J-I Hawks took care of business in their second game against the Simms Tigers, earning a 44-18 dominating win in Chester.
The Hawks took the lead early and never let it go. In the first quarter C/J-I’s Brandon Graff and Ceddy Pogue both scored rushing touchdowns to boost the Hawks to a 14-0 lead.
In the second quarter Ethan Wolery also rushed for a score to put the Hawks up 22-0. But on the ensuing kickoff, the Tigers finally got on the board with a 79-yard kickoff return by Cody Hall.
The Tigers would only score two more times in the game, but C/J-I added three more with two two-point conversions. Grant Lakey scored on an eight-yard reception, while Pogue would score on a 20 and four-yard run.
Pogue rushed 22 times for 106 yards, while Wolery had 18 carries for 86 yards and Graff had 16 carries for 105 yards. Graff was also 12-of-22 for 146-yards passing.
And defensively, the Hawks held the Tigers to -27 yards on the ground.
The Hawks will play again on Friday when they host Centerville.

Big Sandy 26, Jordan 7
On Friday night the Class C Six-Man Big Sandy Pioneers also earned a win at home.
The Pioneers were one fourth quarter score from a defensive shutout, but still defeated the Jordan Mustangs 26-7.
And in the win, it was a big first quarter from all areas of play that put the Pioneers on top. On offense Jessey Bailey got Big Sandy on the board with a four-yard run. But on defense CJ Hanson padded the Pioneers’ lead with a 31-yard interception return. Ryan Miller also got in on the first quarter action with a 75-yard punt return.
Miller also scored in the second quarter on an 18-yard run. And the Mustangs only score came in the fourth quarter on a short run of five yards.
The Pioneers are back in action on Friday when they face Alberton.

Harlem 36, Cascade 21
In more non-conference play, the Class B Harlem Wildcats found a way to win on the road on Friday night.
Facing the Cascade Badgers, the Wildcats earned a 36-21 win in Cascade.
In the first quarter the Wildcats took a 6-0 lead, but by halftime, the Badgers were able to tie the contest at 14-14. But outscoring the Badgers 14-7 in the third quarter, the Wildcats were able to take the lead and hold on for the win.
The Wildcats also outscored the Badgers 8-7 in the fourth and final frame.
Harlem’s Taylor First Raised scored four touchdown passes from Brandon Hammond. And the Wildcats' offense rushed for 259 yards, with Wayne Doney accounting for 140.
Harlem will be in action again on Friday when they face Choteau on the road.

Terry 55, North Star 19
Also on Saturday, the Class C Six-Man North Star Knights dropped a tough season opener to the Terry Terriers in Rudyard.
The Terriers defeated the Knights 55-19.
Terry came out and jumped all over the Knights early, and never slowed down. The Terriers put up just seven in the first quarter, but added 22 in the second, 18 in the third and eight in the fourth quarter.
The Knights did however get scores in the second, third and fourth quarter.
Connor Kline got the Knights on the board in the second with a 60 pass from Jordy Donovan. And Karston Donovan had a one-yard touchdown run in the third, while Quinn Spinler had a 10-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth.
It was a tough season opener for the Knights, but North Star is back in action on Saturday when they face Heart Butte.
